Volkswagen SA recognised the need for South Africa’s youth to have role models and to have resources to carry on with school and avoid STD and disease epidemics such as HIV/AIDS that is, unfortunately, prominent in our country. This is why we support and fund youth organisations that help to empower them with skills, keep them in school; and that educates them in HIV/AIDS prevention amongst the youth.

Here are two of our many Youth Development initiatives:

KwaNobuhle loveLife Y-Centre

In 2010, Volkswagen SA invested in a loveLife Y- Centre in Uitenhage focusing on mentorship programmes that helps the youth stay out of gangs and teaches them how to prevent HIV/AIDS. This youth centre offers programmes and activities to the youth to empower their lives positively by enforcing education, life-skills and even sport opportunities.

Each year, this multi-purpose centre helps to lift, inspire and encourage about 50 000 young people to live a healthy, positive life. The Y-Centre also hosts events and talks at schools to educate learners about relationships and safe sex – furthering our country’s fight against the HIV/AID epidemic.

Soccer Bus

If there’s one thing South Africans have all seen bringing people together, it’s sport. For this reason, as well as the fact that being active stimulates the mind and body, Volkswagen invested in the Soccer Bus. VW sponsored 3 Volkswagen Crafter buses that stop by schools and encourage young people between the ages of 6 and 20 to play soccer and other sports and activities. The bus doubles as a learning curve for the youth as it teaches them about life-skills such as AIDS, violence and values.
